About Bravo Cucina Italiana
Italian cuisine is as much an institution in the United States as hotdogs, hamburgers, and corndogs – and we can’t say that we’re complaining either. Pastas and pizzas, the quintessential Italian dishes, can be enjoyed at all hours of the day and nights, as a full meal or as snacks, and that’s only scratching the surface of Italian cuisine, too!
The chain of Bravo Cucina Italiana restaurants banks on the enduring popularity of Italian cuisine in America and it’s one of the more successful chains of its kind in the country, too. Even the upscale-affordable, as the chain’s management calls it, Bravo Cucina Italiana prices are well worth the excellent quality of the food and drinks.
History
Bravo Brio Restaurant Group, Inc. (BBRG) opened the first Bravo Cucina Italiana in Columbus, Ohio in 1992. The company as a whole is a classic American success story in that it grew from a single family-owned restaurant to a chain of restaurants and brands. Aside from Bravo Cucina Italiana, the company also owned the Brio Tuscan Grill and Bon Vie Bistro chains.
In 2018, however, BBRG was purchased by a Swiss investment company, Spice Private Equity for $100 million.
What They’re Famous For
Bravo Cucina Italiana restaurants, as the name implies, specializes in Northern Italian cuisine with staples like flatbread pizzas, pastas, bruschetta, steaks, soups and salads, and seafood dishes. The restaurants typically have Roman ruins as a style inspiration, as well as open Italian-style kitchen that allow customers to see the chefs preparing their foods.
Why Eat Here
Every Bravo Cucina Italiana restaurant is a fun place to enjoy brunch, lunch and dinner. But don’t let the fun atmosphere detract you from the fact that these are white tablecloth restaurants – more upscale in décor, menu and service than your usual Italian eatery The Roman ruin-style décor makes it clear that, indeed, these are restaurants strongly influenced by Italian culture.
Of course, the best reason to come here is to enjoy the delicious Italian dishes and desserts, and these come in a wide variety so there’s always two or more dishes that will satisfy everybody’s preferences. The menu features dozens, literally, of pastas, pizzas, seafood, steaks, soup, and salads as well as cold and hot beverages; the food items are clearly classified into appetizers, entrées and desserts so choosing is easier and faster even for newbies.
We love the variety of the lunch menu. The Mama’s Lasagna Bolognese is scrumptious to the last bite with its ricotta, mozzarella, and signature meat sauce, as is the Grilled Chicken Marsala with its juicy grilled chicken, mushroom marsala sauce, and mashed potatoes with seasonal vegetables. The Eggplant Parmesan, a classic Italian dish, will rival your grandmother’s recipe with its combo of breaded eggplant, marinara, herb linguine, and mozzarella.
Other highly recommended dishes include the Chicken Caprese, Sausage Tortelloni, and Lobster Ravioli Alla Vodka; the latter is a creamy concoction with sautéed shrimp and creamy tomato sauce. All of the dishes are prepared to order so customers don’t get microwaved or reheated food, which tend to be stale to the taste.
What’s an Italian restaurant without the classic pasta dishes? Bravo Cucina Italiana has its signature Pasta Bravo, a flavorful dish with the chain’s signature tender grilled chicken, rigatoni, and mushrooms with a generous helping of roasted red pepper cream. The Pasta Fra Diavolo is meant to be shared, as is the case for great food, with its campanelle pasta, spicy tomato cream sauce, and lobster butter; you can choose from either shrimp or chicken.
Get the Spaghettini with Meatballs, a dish so delicious that you will not look at a spaghetti with meatballs the same way again. You will like the chunkiness of the handmade pork and beef meatballs on a bed of thin spaghetti drenched in fresh marinara sauce and parmigiano reggiano. Try the Shrimp Scampi Pasta, too, for its spicy flavors from the chili flakes, as well as its combo of capellini, and sautéed shrimp.
The pasta selection for lunch, however, may be a disappointment in terms of variety but not in quality. There are only two choices – Pepperoni Pizza and Margherita Pizza – but these are so authentic that getting fast-food pizza becomes a sacrilege.
The dessert includes tiramisu, one of the most classic Italian desserts ever, as well as warm chocolate cake, crème brulee, and caramel mascarpone cheesecake. The wine list includes red and white wines, as well as house and specialty wines. There are also several gluten-free items, such as Pasta Woozie, Shrimp Scampi Pasta, and New York Strip.
Bring your kids along, too, because there’s a kids’ menu. The kid’s meal includes a choice of either milk, soft drink or lemonade. The choices include lasagna, chicken parmesan, grilled salmon, and chicken fingers.
For large groups, the chain offers packages and pans to-go that will serve between six and eight people. The package may include appetizers, entrées, and salads, which can be mixed and matched according to your needs.
