It’s no longer so strange to get your breakfast at a fast-food joint these days. Sometimes you just get out of the house as quickly as you can, then you pass by a fast-food place, and get your breakfast to go. You just finish the meal along the way.
Ask around as to which fast-food places offer the best breakfast menus, and you’re sure to get a lot of names. Sometimes the arguments as to which of them are the best can be rather contentious. But when we asked people that we know as to which fast-food restaurants offered disappointing breakfast menus, we generally tended to get the same places repeatedly.
So, if you want to make sure you get a good breakfast at a fast-food joint, you may want to avoid the following places:
Bojangles
Okay, this place is great if you want biscuits for breakfast. After all, Bojangles specializes in biscuits. But these biscuits are available all day, and some of them aren’t so nice for breakfast.
You can try the Bo-Berry Biscuit and the Pimento Cheese Biscuit, as they’re great.
The standard Egg & Cheese Biscuit isn’t as good, and the bacon and chicken biscuits are just dull and boring.
What if you’re not into breakfast biscuits? If that’s the case, go somewhere else!
Burger King
Admittedly, you can’t go wrong with their Croissan’Wich. It’s based on egg and cheese, then you get ham, sausage, or bacon. But with everything else on the breakfast menu, it’s just not good enough.
You have the Egg-Normous Burrito with the bacon and sausage, along with the eggs, hash browns, and cheese. It’s just too salty. And you can say the same about the Fully Loaded Buttermilk Biscuit with the bacon, sausage, ham, and cheese.
Krystal
You only have until 11am to get your breakfast here, but that’s okay. It’s not as if Krystal specializes in breakfast fare anyway. It feels mostly like an afterthought.
Your best bet here is to just get the Sunriser, which is somewhat like the Krystal’s signature little burgers. The main difference is that you don’t get the burger patty. You instead get either the bacon or sausage to go with your egg and cheese.
Or you can try the Bacon, Egg & Cheese Biscuit. The biscuit is a bit dense, but you have plenty of butter to compensate for that. Plus, the egg tastes good.
With the other options, you’re just setting yourself up for disappointment. The Original Scrambler Bowl, which features grits with a sausage patty, cheese, and scrambled eggs, isn’t all that tasty. And with the Chik Biscuit, it’s just too dry and it only tastes tolerable with some added sauce.
The trouble starts when you do go with the actual Subway’s breakfast, which is just plain awful. You’re asked to pick a type of bread first (like a flatbread), then you add a combination of assorted lunch meat with cheese and an egg.
What you end up with doesn’t really get you going nicely. Eating the flatbread is like eating cardboard. Go with the “classic” combo of bacon, egg, and cheese, and it doesn’t taste like anything at all.
