About Penn Station

This is particularly true for Penn Station East Coast Subs. Simply referred to as Penn Station, the fact that it shares a name with a popular place is a double-edged sword for the business. On one hand, it keeps them from becoming a household name as they can be confused with the transport station. On the other, their name is very easy to remember. Despite this, however, it’s hard to deny that the chain has come a long way from its very humble beginnings.

Penn Station prices alongside its quality food offerings help make it a hit despite its small menu. If you’re curious about it, you can learn more about the chain in this article.

History

Looking at how Penn Station started, it’s rather surprising that it already has more than 300 stores in 15 states today. Their story started in 1983 when Jeff Osterfeld decided to venture into the food industry straight out of university. He founded “Jeffrey’s Delicatessen” and opened his first location in the Dayton Mall in Dayton, Ohio.

With his experience in the sandwich field, his trip to Philadelphia helped him discover and appreciate the popularity of the cheesesteak sandwich. As a result, he decided to offer the variant in his restaurant which instantly became a hit among local diners.

The birth of Penn Station came when Osterfeld decided to expand his restaurant operations in 1985. The first location was in Cincinnati with just 4 sandwich options, with cheesesteak one of them. This is also where the fresh-cut french fries and freshly-squeezed lemonades were first served, becoming distinctive menu items for the eatery later on.

Just two years later, Osterfeld started opening additional Penn Station locations around Cincinnati. After a while, he started selling franchises so new stores were opened in places like Nashville, Louisville, and St. Louis.

As mentioned above, today, Penn Station has more than 300 stores in 15 states. It was also able to establish itself as a renowned sandwich chain in the Midwest.

What They’re Famous For

While most folks only refer to Penn Station as is, it’s long and more specific name includes the term ‘East Coast Subs’. The term isn’t really explained anywhere but looking at their menu, it very likely refers to the grilled submarine sandwiches that they serve. Since the eatery is named after an iconic East Coast location, their products and overall theme should match, right?

In any case, with their very limited menu, it’s not hard to guess that Penn Station is best known for its subs. Their grilled subs are their top-sellers, especially the cheesesteak which helped put them on the map. Customers can choose from classic, chicken, Italian, lighter fares, and some custom options. They also have a range of cold subs to choose from.

Each sub is made with the finest meats, freshest vegetables, and high-quality cheeses. They also make their own hearth-baked bread, so you’re guaranteed that they’re a cut above the rest.

Aside from sandwiches, Penn Station also offers wraps, salads, cheesebreads, and chips. But it’s really their fresh-cut fries that complete their meals. Made from hand-picked potatoes and flash-fried at high temperatures in cholesterol-free peanut oil, you’re promised a crisp, tasty, and even healthy side.

You can then round it out with a glass of freshly squeezed lemonade and you got yourself a fresh, tasty, and flavorful meal.

Why Eat Here

Why should you pay Penn Station a visit? Here are three reasons that might win you over.

1. They offer great deals.

When there’s a good occasion, Penn Station joins in on the fun by offering a great deal. They usually offer great deals on their fresh-cut fries which is always an inviting thing as they offer top-notch french fries. They also regularly offer special deals on their subs and cookies from time to time.

2. They give back.

Penn Station also makes it a point to contribute to the betterment of the communities they’re in. They have recently hosted a fundraiser for the Down Syndrome Association and donated meals to the One Case One Meal program. They have always been committed to carrying out their corporate responsibilities, so it can be rather satisfying to support such a generous business.

3. They offer great food.

Subs aren’t exactly considered as health foods but it doesn’t mean that they have to be bad. Penn Station is a good proof of this with the quality of their offerings.
