About Another Broken Egg
Another Broken Egg – yes, it’s actually the name of the restaurants – is a chain of breakfast and brunch-dedicated restaurants making its mark in the American culinary landscape. The current number of restaurants – more than 35 as of this writing – may be small in comparison with the likes of McDonald’s and KFC, but therein lies its popularity among the breakfast crowd. There’s so little of the fast-food quality in the menu because every food evokes the flavors of home-cooked meals.
History
In November 1996, the Broken Egg Café opened in Old Mandeville, Louisiana and set the tone for the succeeding restaurants. Even then, the restaurant featured great views – bubbling fountains and waterfalls greeted guests – aside from the delicious foods and drinks on the breakfast, brunch, and lunch menu.
In August 1998, the second restaurant, known as Another Broken Egg Café, opened in Destin, Florida. The views were just as beautiful since the café was situated in the Florida Panhandle with its white sands and turquoise waters. By December 2008, the chain already consisted of 10 restaurants, which increased to 34 restaurants by June 2014.
On January 2013, the fast-growing chain was named as among the “Top 500 Franchise Businesses in America” by Entrepreneur Magazine.
What They’re Famous For
The Another Broken Egg chain is known for its extensive breakfast and brunch menu although there’s also a smaller lunch menu. The dishes and desserts are popular because the chain only uses the freshest and best ingredients, introduces creative twists to the classics, and creates new recipes that guests come back for again and again. The most popular items are apparently the shrimp ‘n grits, cinnamon roll French toast, and eggs Benedict, which isn’t surprising as these are both flavorful and filling.
Why Eat Here
Another Broken Egg distinguishes itself from its competitors by making it fast and easy for its guests to eat without waiting in line. The chain has an app, called the NoWait, which can be downloaded to smartphones in 50 seconds or less. The guest can register with the app, put their name on the waiting list, and wait in the comfort of their home.
You, the guest, can check the app every so often to know the number of parties ahead of your own and your estimated waiting time. When you have 10 minutes or so before your turn is up, you can walk or drive to the restaurant, tell your name to the receptionist, and be seated almost immediately. The app ensures convenience for guests since there’s no need to wait for an available table.
As soon as you enter the restaurant, you will be greeted by the friendly wait staff who will also take and serve your orders. You don’t have to wait too long for your food and drinks to arrive, thanks to the apparently efficient kitchen staff, and you can request additional orders from the wait staff. You don’t have to give tips to the wait staff but you will likely give one, nonetheless, because everybody just seems so nice, fast and efficient.
Another Broken Egg is a restaurant chain that serves primarily breakfast and brunch with a smaller lunch menu. Keep in mind that the restaurants usually close at 2 p.m. daily so come here early, if possible. The breakfast menu caters to almost every taste in breakfasts, whether it’s the American classics or Tex-Mex fare, including omelets, scrambled dishes, eggs Benedicts, waffles, pancakes, and huevos rancheros.
The huevos rancheros are notable because of its tasty and filling quality. Every order consists of blacked beans, sautéed onions, and green chilies in a fried tortilla and topped with cheese, eggs and chorizo, as well as salsa, sour cream and country potatoes.
The eggs can also be cooked according to your preference. Otherwise, you will be served medium-cooked poached eggs, sunny side ups, and scrambled eggs. Regardless of the way that you prefer your eggs, you will enjoy plenty of choices in their preparation – chorizos, green chilies, eggs, avocados, black beans, grilled tomatoes and bacon, to name a few.
The lunch menu doesn’t offer as many choices as the breakfast and brunch menu but you should already set realistic expectations about it. There are club sandwiches and burgers, such as the classic bacon burger with Angus beef. The affordable Another Broken Egg prices apply to all the menus so eating here as often as you can will not drain your finances.
There’s also a full bar in each restaurant – and you will likely require a Bloody Mary when you have kids in tow. The chain is kid- and family-friendly so your breakfast mates will likely be parents and grandparents with their kids but the noise level is still tolerable. The outdoor seating is a great way to escape the hubbub while enjoying your breakfast or brunch.
