History

In 1983, Al Copeland opened the first Copeland’s restaurant. The chain has encountered its share of ups and downs in its history. In the 1990s, the chain made significant strides in its expansion program, such as operating more than 40 restaurants in 12 steaks. By 2004, the restaurants offered a steakhouse-style menu that proved popular with its target customers. But trouble soon followed when the chain closed half of their restaurants, which resulted in just 20 locations in 8 states. In the following years, fortunately, it expanded its operations into Texas as well as added other ventures, such as the Fire and Ice Restaurants, Copeland’s Cheesecake Bistro, and Al’s Diversified Food & Seasonings.

In keeping with its New Orleans-style cuisine, Copeland’s restaurants include dishes and desserts inspired by French and Cajun cuisines. The most popular items are the steak and seafood specialties as well as the Sunday Brunch menu, Veal Copeland, Eggplant Pirogue, and Jambalaya Pasta. Classic dishes from New Orleans, such as shrimp Creole and crawfish etouffee, are also available.
