History
In 1987, the husband-and-wife team of Rick Deann Bayless wanted to re-create the flavors of Mexico in their own restaurant after travelling through the country. They opened their first Frontera Grill restaurant in Chicago’s River North neighborhood in January and has not looked back since then. The duo wanted their first restaurant to evoke the colorful, vibrant and dynamic kitchens of Mexico, thus, they festooned it with colorful Mexican folk art, played Mariachi music, and filled the menu with rich black beans, tangy tomatillos, and spicy chiles. Today, the restaurant chain continues to add authentic Mexican flavors and develop strong relationships with its customers through its delicious food and drinks.
What They’re Famous For
Frontera Grill is an award-winning restaurant chain known for the fine dining quality of its menu, service and ambiance even with its casual dining nature. Among its more notable awards are the 2007 Bib Gourmand Michelin Guide; the 2010 3-Star Green Certification Green Restaurant Association award; and the 2011–2013 Most Popular Chicago Restaurant by Zagat, a prestigious organization. Its scrumptious authentic regional dishes as well as stellar margaritas are just as few of the attractions that keep the diners coming to its restaurants.
