History
In 1978, Arnie Morton and Klaus Fritsch opened the first Morton’s, The Steakhouse in Chicago, Illinois particularly in Newberry Plaza. It is still in operation to this day.
In December 2011, Tilman Fertitta announced the acquisition of all Morton’s stocks by Landry’s, Inc. thus resulting in it complete ownership. By 2012, Landry’s completed its takeover and transferred the Morton’s headquarters to Houston, Texas.
What It’s Famous For
Morton’s, The Steakhouse is a steakhouse with a sterling reputation but diners have to be prepared to pay for the luxurious dining experience. While there’s no shortage of upscale steakhouses, such as Mastro’s, Fleming’s, and Capital Grille, Morton’s is unquestionably one of the leaders with its truly delicious steaks.
Why Eat Here
You will find plenty of reasons to become a regular patron at Morton’s despite the relatively high-end prices starting at $65 for a basic meal for a single person. Your first impression will likely be the stunning décor that sets the mood for the rest of the evening – elegant yet comforting and filling.
You will also be impressed by the clientele, which apparently includes many local celebrities as well as well-heeled residents and tourists; be sure to follow the strict dress code as you can be denied entry. You should also make reservations since it can be packed with diners on both weekdays and weekends.
Of course, Morton’s is an upscale steakhouse so steaks in various cuts and cooking styles are the stars of the show. You can request for your steak to be prepared rare, medium rare, or well-done depending on your preference although emphasis must be made that medium rare is the best kind for pork and beef. You also have several choices in appetizers, such as the seafood platter served on a bed of ice, salads and sides, and desserts as well as drinks including a selection of the best wines.
You will find the servers to be well-trained, as evidenced by their knowledgeable recommendations, friendly attitude, and efficient service. You are, indeed, in an upscale restaurant when the managers and servers are working well together in ensuring that the transition from one dish to the next is as smooth as possible.
