About Planet Hollywood
The Planet Hollywood chain capitalizes on the popularity of the movie industry and, in fact, it was started and endorsed by several Hollywood A-list celebrities. Aside from the restaurant aspect, the business also includes hotels, resorts and casinos. Think of it as an all-in-one dining, gambling and entertainment brand!
History
Planet Hollywood International, Inc. was established on October 22, 1991 in New York City. It was a themed restaurant based on the popular image of Hollywood as the center of world cinema. It was also backed by several A-list Hollywood stars including Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Demi Moore while the subsequent celebrity endorsers included Don Johnson, Whoopi Goldberg, Melanie Griffith, Danny Glover, and Roseanne Barr.
From the single restaurant, the Planet Hollywood brand has expanded to include restaurants with retail stores, such as in Disneyland Paris, The Forum Shops in Caesars at Las Vegas, and New York. The Planet Hollywood resorts are in Utorda Beach in Goa and in the Las Vegas Strip in Las Vegas, Nevada.
What They’re Famous For
The Planet Hollywood brand is well-known for its wide range of contemporary American classic fare from burgers to salads. The eclectic food options in the resorts’ restaurants are part of its appeal, aside from the Hollywood-inspired décor, vibe and even celebrity guests.
Why Eat Here
According to Planet Hollywood’s management, their customers dine and wine like a movie star as well as dine and wine with many of their favorite celebrities. This isn’t such an exaggerated claim as the restaurants within a Planet Hollywood resort, aside from the flagship restaurant itself, provide its guests with gourmet food and drinks, excellent services, and stylish environments.
In the Las Vegas Planet Hollywood, for example, customers will love the eclectic collection of restaurants including Gordon Ramsay Burger, which offer creative dishes created by the master restaurateur himself. The menu includes pork belly bao buns served with sweet potato fries as the main course, the devil dogs for spicy fare, and pudding shakes to satisfy the sweet tooth.
There’s also Strip House, the Las Vegas steakhouse of Planet Hollywood, which offer rich sides (e.g., truffle creamed spinach), steak dishes, and 24-layed chocolate cake. The Old Hollywood atmosphere – red walls, dim lighting, and black-and-white photos – is just as much part of the charm as the food.
Other restaurants in the Las Vegas resort are Koi, a celebrity favorite known for its Japanese cuisine with California tweaks; P.F. Chang’s China Bistro, a restaurant that offer traditional Chinese cuisine with contemporary touches; and Yolos Cantina, the best place for authentic Mexican fare with touches of the Caribbean and South American cultures. Be sure to dine at the Spice Market Buffet, too, which feature international cuisines in a buffet setting.
The Planet Hollywood prices are more expensive that your usual fast-food and casual dining restaurants. But when you consider the great food and drinks, the efficient service, and the relaxed yet glamorous vibe, the prices are well worth it.
The menu offerings include appetizers, which are yummy ways to start the meal. The choices include Avocado Stacks, a creamy combo of fresh avocados, pico de gallo, corn tortilla chips, and sour cream; Potato Skins, a crispy treat of potato wedges with chees, bacon and sour cream; and Texas Tostados, a generous helping of crisp gyoza skins with lip-smacking topping of barbecue chicken, cheese, and sautéed onions. The Buffalo wings are classics, too, which many say are a filling snack on their own.
The VIP Platter serves four people – and fills them up, too. The platter includes Buffalo wings, Chicken Crunch, and Texas Tostado served with a spinach dip, while the option to add shrimp is also available for an extra charge.
The salads are tasty, too, although there are a few odd combos in the menu. Be sure to ask the staff first about the salad ingredients so that you have a general idea of the salad’s flavor profile. The Spinach and Peaches salad has a sweet and tangy balance, thanks to the grilled chicken, peaches, baby spinach, candied walnuts, and strawberries with bleu cheese crumbles and tomato balsamic vinaigrette.
Each order of a sandwich already comes with coleslaw, pickle and potato chips although there’s also the option of freshly cut fruit. You may want to pair a sandwich with a frothy hand-dipped milkshake and a Caesar salad.
You can linger over your lunch or dinner, savor the flavors, and engage your friends in good conversation. You never know who will walk in through the doors of a Planet Hollywood restaurant while you’re enjoying yourself!
