History

In 1979, Tim Martin opened the first Wetherspoon’s pub in Muswell Hill. The story has it that the Wetherspoons name was derived from Martin’s teacher in New Zealand who couldn’t control his primary school class. Of course, the full food and drinks menu is the main attraction in the pubs. The turkey pie earns raves for its crispy onion and sage pastry, tender turkey meat coupled with parsnips and carrots, and stuffing made of pork, cranberry and chestnut – and the combo is as delicious as can be. The rich and tasty gravy, puff pastry on top, and sides (i.e., choice of chips, mash, or peas) is the icing on the cake.

The vegetarians will rejoice at the vegetarian Wellington, a traditional pastry-wrapped meal on its own with spinach, mushrooms, cranberries, hazelnuts, and Brie – no beef! This is served with mash, chips, or gravy for the same price as the turkey pie.

The starters are also notable for their delicious flavors. Your choices include the favorite British pork and smoked bacon pate pâté with its own baguette and red onion marmalade soup of the day served with baguette; and mini-sized smoked salmon salad. These are filling on their own, if you have a small appetite, so be sure to leave room for desserts and drinks.

The desserts include milk honeycomb cheesecake, a memorable combo; traditional Christmas pudding because every day can be Christmas; and white chocolate and cranberry muffin. Pair your desserts with champagne, cocktails, or coffee, whatever catches your fancy on your visit.
